In My Neck of the Woods

We took a mini vaca to our house at the lake. This is a new build so it is just a shell of a house. It has the rooms studded in, but the electrician/plumber is doing is his thing as we speak, so no insulation, no heat...yet.

We went down on Friday afternoon and when we arrived I quickly unpacked and set up my sewing machine so I could work on a couple of quilts while we were there. Of course I knew I would not get either one finished because my body will not let me work on anything for very long. But isn't that how you eat an elephant...just a little at a time?

On Friday night it was so cold, I slept in a camisole, insulated underwear top and bottoms and my socks. I had an electric blanket a quilt and an comforter on me all night and I was freezing.

On Saturday we made a list of things we needed in town and made a quick trip to the Walmart in Warsaw, MO. I went to the ladies accessories to buy something warm. Let me just say, they make women's clothes for women who say indoors. I did buy a neck muffler that looks like an infinity scarf. It is furry on the inside and has a knitted type fabric on the outside so I figured that would be perfect. The gloves and hats were pathetic. I headed to men's wear. I found an Elmer Fudd style hat with fur on the inside and plaid fabric on the outside, with ear flaps. Perfect!!! Oh, and men's leather work gloves. I was set.

On Saturday night I slept in my camisole, my insulated underwear, my hooded sweatshirt, my new neck muffler, my new hat, my socks, and I still had my same bedding.

It was 48 degrees inside during the day....too cold for my taste, and that was with 3 electric heaters going. On Saturday night I woke up at 3 am feeling terrible. I had a migraine from my plugged sinus, and I felt terrible, and I was freezing. It was 42 degrees at night inside

Rod finally work up at 4 am and talked until 5 am. He had a miserable night too because we were sleeping on army cots, and Bella was cold and slept on the foot of his cot, he couldn't turn over or stretch, but had to stay in one position all night. And he was cold.

When we got up at 5 am Rod knew I was ill and miserable, even though I was trying to be a trooper and not whine. I stayed wrapped in my electric blanket and comforter. Rod positioned the electric heaters on either side of me, then he sat facing me with his feet between the heaters too.

After drinking a cup of coffee and a can of Coke to settle my stomach, (migraines always make me sick all over)., I got up, got dressed, fixed breakfast, cleaned up the mess, then loaded me car.

My son showed up to help where he could and I told him hello and goodbye. I left by 11 am-ish. Once home I made a big pot of potato soup, took a good hot shower, and put warm jammies on....it was 3:30 pm.

I think I slept 49 hours last night and I feel so much better today. Oh, I brought Bella home with me. She is feeling so much better too and has slept as much or more than I have.

After I left, Rod, Luke and Jr put up a much needed wall on the inside of the garage. Now the electric heaters are only heating the living quarters and not the entire building.

It will be great when it is finished and next weekend we should have the wood stove up and running. That will feel much better.
